Electrical Engineering and Computer Science

Sanjoy Mahajan received undergraduate degrees in mathematics from Oxford University and in physics from Stanford University, obtaining his PhD in theoretical physics from the California Institute of Technology. Since middle school he wondered how computers could learn from experience, and several years later co-authored a world-championship Othello program that did so; at Caltech he became fascinated with how people learn and how to improve the teaching of science.
He continued this interest as a member of the physics faculty in the University of Cambridge and continues it at MIT as a Lecturer in the Department of Electrical Engineering and Computer Science, and as Associate Director for Teaching Initiatives in theTeaching and Learning Laboratory .
