Week 2: Energy Storage; Measurement Lab

Lab 2: Solar Power Measurement, Part II: Activities

Description: This lab consists of three modules:

  • Characterize the peak power output of the solar cell
  • Measure how power output of a solar panel changes with the angle of light
  • Measure how solar panel efficiency drops when the panel is shaded

Students also get more instruction and hands-on time with various workshop tasks, including

  • Drilling holes in sheet metal with a drill press
  • Cutting copper and PVC pipe with hand tools
  • Cutting rebar with a hacksaw
  • Spot welding
  • Bending sheet metal with a brake
  • Using a hand riveter
