Though the majority of the class is devoted to seminar-style discussions, four formal lectures are given. Listed below are the titles and short descriptions of these lectures.

Special Topic I: Dimensional Analysis An introduction to dimensional analysis and the Buckingham Pi theorem. Examples range from Gulliver and the Lilliputians to the atomic explosions of 1945.
Special Topic II: Resampling An introduction to doing data analysis and statistics using resampling and Monte Carlo methods.
Special Topic III: Spukhafte Fernwirkungen An introduction to spooky actions at a distance and the bizarre statistics of the quantum world.
Special Topic IV: Hodgkin-Huxley Historical background to the work of Hodgkin and Huxley.
