Course Description
This course introduces finite element methods for analysis of steady-state and transient problems in solid, structural, fluid mechanics, and heat transfer. Finite element methods and solution procedures for linear and nonlinear analyses are presented using largely physical arguments. Homework involves use of an existing general purpose finite element analysis program. A term project is required for graduate students. Applications include finite element analyses, modeling of problems, and interpretation of numerical results.
