OCW: The prompt for the fourth learning journal assignment is to “Use some form of generative AI to comment on generative AI in education.” What have some of the more successful examples of students’ work on this assignment looked like?
Justin Reich: They were much more interesting a few years ago when generative was brand new, and when things like Dall-E and ChatGPT were just released, and people didn’t know exactly what kinds of practices one might use these new tools for. So students generated weird prompts, made diverse images and representations, and other kinds of things. Now, I think most students just put the query into a ChatGPT prompt window and copy over the response. Because there is a clearer sense of what the protocol is for such an exercise, the results are more homogenous. I’ll probably replace it with something else in the future.
