Basic Themes in French Literature and Culture

Assignments

In addition to the reading assignments, students will complete an oral presentation, individual research paper, and weekly short-answer papers.

Oral Presentation

The oral presentations may be completed individually or in pairs. They will be limited to 15 minutes maximum. Students will also have to speak to the class during their oral presentation (not to read a pre-written text).

Individual Research Paper

The paper should be between 5 and 6 pages. Students will decide on their topic at the beginning of the term (most likely a particular aspect of their oral presentation), so that they can collect material and ideas over several weeks. The students are strongly encouraged to submit a one-page outline before they start writing. The paper will be submitted two weeks before the end of classes.

Weekly Short-Answer Papers

The weekly short-answer papers should consist of a half-page argument on the weekly theme. The prompts for each session are shown in the table below.
