Session 20: Early Diagenesis II and Sediment Distributions

The lecture examines the two most abundant biogenic components of marine sediments—biogenic opal (silica) and calcium carbonate (CaCO₃)—and explains how they dissolve, preserve, and interact within ocean sediments. Both play major roles in paleoceanography, sediment diagenesis, and global biogeochemical cycles.
