Course Meeting Times

Lectures: 2 sessions / week; 1.5 hours / session

Recitations: 1 session / week; 1 hour / session

Description

This course gives an overview of engineering management and covers topics such as financial principles, management of innovation, technology strategy, and best management practices. The focus of the course is the development of individual skills and team work. This is carried out through an exposure to management tools.

Learning Objectives

  1. Learn fundamental concepts and practices used in engineering management.
  2. Learn to apply concepts towards the development of business and technology strategies.
  3. Learn to communicate concepts effectively.

Measurable Outcomes

  1. Obtain an understanding of accounting principles.
  2. Construct financial statements and perform ratio analyses.
  3. Use financial principles to develop business and technology strategies.
  4. Carry out risk analyses for developing business and technology strategies.
  5. Design a business plan for a technology-based enterprise.

Class Participation

Students are expected to attend all class sessions, read assigned materials prior to class sessions, and contribute towards class discussions.

Assignments

Assignments consist of case study analyses, group based and individual writing assignments, group presentations, and a final project.
