Last Thoughts

Below, Prof. Tristan G. Brown shares a few general observations about the course and about higher education in general.

This course could not run without our teaching assistants, who change each term but are essential to the course through managing logistics, staying on top of student emails, and building the kind of one-on-one familiarity with students that makes a class this size feel genuinely personal.

On a broader note, I just want to tell people not to lose faith in higher education. Yes, there are real problems and inequities, and yes, we will have to adapt to new technologies. But I hope these videos might remind people that there is real value in the humanities. There is nothing quite like being in a classroom, closing the door, and talking seriously about difficult questions, difficult evidence, and the people who came before us. That experience remains one of the most valuable things universities can offer.
