The Fall Showcase is the culminating event for the Experiential Ethics course. It gives you all an opportunity to present the projects you’ve been working on all summer long to members of the broader MIT ethics of technology community.
About the Event
The Fall Showcase will take place on campus. The event will take the form of a poster session. Students will be divided into groups. For part of the time, you will be stationed by your project, where you will present it to those who come by and answer questions. For the other part, you’ll visit other students’ stations and learn about their projects! We’ll have lots of interested faculty and influential people in MIT’s ethics of tech community in attendance, and you are encouraged to invite your professors, friends, and mentors as well. We will also have a keynote speaker.
How to Prepare
We will have electronic poster boards available for your use. However, you are not required to present your project via a traditional academic poster. You are encouraged to get creative when it comes to the shareable component of your project. For example, you might set up stations for visitors to listen to a podcast or view a video; alternatively, you might display an art piece. Feel free to brainstorm with your TA and your discussion group about how you can best show off your work.
You should be prepared to give a short introduction or “elevator pitch” about your project to those who visit your station. You should also be ready to answer questions. Workshopping your project with your peers will give you a sense of what sorts of questions to expect.
